Campbell Sweeps Player and Pitcher of the Week

Macon, Ga. -- Campbell swept the Atlantic Sun Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week honors the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Sophomore Lauren Caviness was named Pitcher of the Week and senior Holly Harris claimed Player of the Week.

Caviness pitched 27 1/3 innings in five appearances allowing just three earned runs on the week finishing with a 3-1 record and a 0.77 ERA. The Fuquay-Varina, N.C. native ran her season-opening streak to 23 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run, before seeing it end in the sixth inning against Bucknell. The sophomore struck out 17 batters compared to just five walks and had three complete games on the week.

Harris blasted three home runs, hit .333 for the week, had a .933 slugging percentage and a .524 on base percentage guiding the Camels to a 4-2 record. The senior drove in four runs and also scored four runs, while getting walked five times. Harris went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a home run in the Camels 7-6 nine inning victory over Towson, which clinched the pool title for Campbell.

Harris, Caviness and the rest of the Camels return to action Tuesday afternoon hosting Charleston Southern. The doubleheader gets underway at 4:00 pm.

The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Player of the Week every Monday during the 2006 softball campaign.

The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.

Cambria McKay, KSU (Sr. - C - Brompton, Ontario - Sports Management) -- McKay had a stellar week as she went 8-for-17 (.471) in games against Samford, Georgia Tech, Georgia State and Eastern Kentucky. She scored three runs, while notching two doubles, one triple, one home run, and five RBI. She posted a slugging percentage of .882 and had 24 put-outs and six assists in the field.

Sammi Parks, BEL
(Fr. - SS/P - Riverside, Calif. - Political Science) -- Parks finished the day from the plate with four hits, three RBI, one homerun and hit .667. She finished with a whopping 1.500 slugging percentage, a .667 on-base percentage, and a 1.000 fielding percentage.
