BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Erica Demers (25-5) threw a one-hitter as Stetson blanked Gardner-Webb 2-0 in the final game of the first round at the Atlantic Sun Conference Softball Championship.

The Hatters scored single runs in the third and fourth innings and totaled seven hits against GWU starter Taryn Beck (5-12). Beck struck out four and walked just one.

Demers dominated the Bulldogs with 11 strikeouts and no walks. She faced just two batters over the minimum. Seven different Hatters had hits. Shawna Wiggs and Nicole Forbes both had RBIs, while Sherrel Fountain scored once.

Stetson (42-14) moves on to play at 8:00 p.m. against Mercer. GWU faces ETSU in the first elimination game of the day at 4:00.
