BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Five runs total in the fifth and sixth innings propelled no. 1 Stetson past no. 3 Mercer 6-1 in the final game of round two at the 2006 Atlantic Sun Conference Softball Championships Thursday night.

Stetson pounded out 12 hits, with Melissa Wiggins and Andrea Migliori getting three hits apiece. Wiggins, the A-Sun Player of the Year, scored three times while Migliori had two runs and two RBIs in the game.

Lindsay Wightman added three RBIs on two hits for the Hatters. Jamie Madruga had a solo home run to lead off the second for Mercer’s lone tally. Tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, a triple for Sherrel Fountain, walk by Wiggins and double by Migliori plated two.

Migliori later scored on a base knock by Wightman. Wightman picked up two more RBIs with a double in the sixth that scored Wiggins and Migliori. Erica Demers (26-5) got the win, going five innings and striking out five for her second victory of the day.

Heather Colding pitched the final two innings for the win. Mercer (26-28) is eliminated with the loss. Stephanie Rossman (7-15) suffers the defeat in relief, responsible for five runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Stetson (43-14) moves on to face Florida Atlantic at 3:00 p.m. in Friday’s winners’ bracket final on Friday.
