Monday, May 15, 2006 MACON, Ga. -- Gardner-Webb sophomore left fielder, Jessi Williams, was recently named second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III in the University Division by the College Sports Information Directors of America.Williams currently holds a cumulative grade point average of 3.87 while majoring in biology and working towards a minor in chemistry. The Ellenton, Fla., native was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team in 2005 and was also tabbed as a 2005 NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete. The 2006 second-team All-Atlantic Sun Conference selection recently completed one of the top single-season performances by a Bulldog in the school’s DI history by leading the team with a .336 batting average, 28 runs, nine doubles, 35 runs batted in, 81 total bases, a .393 on-base percentage and a hefty .544 slugging percentage. Williams also rapped out six home runs and two triples while starting all 50 games for Gardner-Webb and will round out her sophomore campaign with top-five single-season marks in average, runs batted in, home runs, total bases and slugging percentage. Williams is joined on the Academic All-District III Second Team by Kristen Butler, Lindsay Norfleet and Stacey Stevens of Florida, Christie Chapman of South Florida, Maggie Wolfe of Hampton, Anna Evans of North Carolina, Aileen Morales of Georgia Tech, Caitlin Hooe of Longwood, Jackie Greer of Virginia, Christine Doyle of Coastal Carolina and Heather Gelbard of North Carolina State.
