Wednesday, September 06, 2006 BUIES CREEK, N.C .-- Campbell University will offer two free softball clinics for girls, ages 8-17, in Fuquay-Varina, N.C. and Dunn, N.C. Those girls who participate will also get the chance to meet the Campbell players and watch them in action. The first clinic will be held Saturday, September 9, in Fuquay-Varina at the South Park 2 from 9:00 am-12:00 pm; the second clinic will take place on Saturday, October 28 in Dunn, N.C. from 9:00 am-12:00 pm. Campbell head coach Drew Peterson said the clinics are a great opportunity for girls to learn more about the game. “We’re looking forward to reaching out and serving the community by providing an opportunity for young girls who would like to learn more about softball and have fun on a Saturday,” Peterson said. “The clinics also give the girls a chance to meet some of the college players. I hope everyone will feel welcome to come out." Peterson added that the clinics also represent an opportunity for Campbell athletes to give back to their communities. “They’ve all grown up with certain opportunities,” Peterson said. “They’ve had the chance to get some instruction from strong coaches and other college players who have enabled them to get where they are in college athletics. I think it’s important for our girls to give back in that light, to realize they are where they are because other people helped them.” On Saturday, September 23, there will be a round robin tournament at Campbell. Campbell will face off against Mount Olive at 9:00 am and Louisburg College at 11:00 am; Louisburg will take on Mount Olive at 1:00 pm and Francis Marion College at 6:00 pm; and Campbell will play Francis Marion College at 4:00 pm. “We’d love to have people come out and enjoy some softball,” said Peterson. |
