Courtesy of LipscombSports.com Monday, March 09, 2009 MACON, Ga. - Preseason All-Conference third baseman Cheyenne Jenks knocked in 14 runs to extend the Eagles' winning streak to 16 with a 6-for-6 weekend at the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament to earn her second consecutive Player of the Week award. Whitney Kiihnl pitched three consecutive shutouts for the Lady Bisons to earn Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Jenks led the Eagles offense to a perfect record and batted .526. The art major belted four home runs in the tournament. In an 8-3 win against No. 25 Mississippi State, Jenks went 2-for-4 with a double, home run, two runs scored, and two RBIs. The Naples, Fla., native had her best game in a 16-6 win over Radford, finishing 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, four runs scored, and five RBIs. She also racked up ten runs scored through the weekend. Kiihnl pitched three consecutive shutouts, winning against Austin Peay, 3-0; Charleston Southern, 3-0; and UNC-Wilmington, 5-0. Two of the Batesville, Miss., native’s shutouts were in the Low Country Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern, earning her a spot on the All-Tournament Team. The Lady Bisons, 13-4, open a long homestand this week at Draper Diamond. Tennessee Tech visits Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. for a doubleheader. Virginia Tech is in town Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. for a doubleheader. The Atlantic Sun Conference is an 11-member league committed to Building Winners for Life. Other Top Performers Jenni Holtz, Mercer (P - Tracy, Calif - So. - Undeclared) -- Jenni Holtz went 3-1 on the week, including posting a pair of victories in Mercer's doubleheader sweep of SEC opponent Auburn. The Tracy, Calif. native racked up 24 strikeouts and allowed just six earned runs in 20.1 innings pitched over the week. Holtz stifled Auburn in game two, pitching a complete-game shutout and tallying nine strikeouts to give Mercer the sweep. In the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic, Holtz posted her second complete-game victory of the week over Indiana State, allowing just three earned runs. Catherine McDaniel, FGCU (P - Melbourne, Fla. - Jr. - Early Childhood Education) -- Catherine McDaniel improved to 11-0 on the year with a 2-0 record at the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii. McDaniel threw a complete game in a 2-1 win against Oregon State, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out two. McDaniel also got the start against the host University of Hawaii, hurling a complete game allowing just four hits and striking out six in the 5-4 win for the Eagles. McDaniel has won every game in which she has pitched this season. Brittany Stanley, Campbell (P/DP - West Layfayette, Ind. - Jr. - Business) -- The junior went 3-0 on the week with two complete game shutouts and didn't allow a run in any of her three appearances with only six hits allowed in 17 innings.Stanley also struck out 13 and limited opponents to a .105 batting average.Stanley began her week and came in relief after the second inning against Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday and went the rest of the game only surrendering two hits and recorded six strikeouts.she continued her strong week with a complete game two-hit shutout of Jacksonville (3/6) where she struck out five.Stanley finished her week with a masterful two-hit seven inning effort against North Florida (3/7).the two hits she gave up were infield singles.on the week, Stanley went all 17 innings without give up an extra base hit or a run..Stanley also did work with the bat in hitting .467 with seven hits, two home runs, nine RBIs and a .867 slugging percentage. |
