Tuesday, March 09, 2010 DeLAND, Fla. - Stetson senior pitcher Amanda Lindsey (Byhalia, Miss.) threw a no-hitter for the second time in her last three starts, blanking Austin Peay 2-0 in the first game of a softball doubleheader at Patricia Wilson Field on Tuesday evening. APSU defeated the Hatters 5-1 in the nightcap; Stetson is now 11-9 on the season. Sophomore first baseman Carolyn Boyd (Germantown, Tenn.) had three hits on the night, two of them doubles. Stetson Head Coach Frank Griffin earned his 700th career victory with Lindsey's no-hitter in the opener. His lifetime record in 21 collegiate seasons is 700-376; he is 475-289 in 14 years with the Hatters. The Lady Govs managed just one baserunner in seven innings against Lindsey in the opener, a leadoff walk drawn by left fielder Tiffany Smith to lead off the top of the fifth. By that time, Stetson had already scored the only two runs it would need. Lindsey walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0 and junior right fielder Rachel Lowe (Okeechobee, Fla.) lashed an RBI double to right center in the bottom of the second to plate freshman pinch runner Chelsea Whalley (Calgary, Alta.). Lindsey struck out nine batters, including five of the last six Lady Govs, and only allowed one ball to be hit out of the infield. Boyd went two for three with a double while junior third baseman Jill Semento (Umatilla, Fla.) collected her first triple of the year. |
