Stetson Long Ball Defeats Jacksonville, 2-0

DeLAND, Fla. – No. 2 Stetson (33-19) used back-to-back home runs from Jill Semento and Jordan Cleghorn, in addition to a shutout from Amanda Lindsey, to vault into the next round of play in the A-Sun Softball Championships.

Lindsey led the Hatters from the circle, as the senior pitcher fanned eight, and her defense committed no errors and allowing no runs in seven innings. In the fifth inning, Semento sparked the Stetson offense with a home run, quickly followed by a long ball from Cleghorn.

Senior hurler Ashley Iveson of No. 5 Jacksonvile (32-22) fanned seven Hatter batters, allowed two hits, just two runs (earned) and three walks. Kayla Oullet led Jacksonville at the plate, collecting two hits in four at bats.

Stetson will face No. 3 Kennesaw State in a matchup slated for 8 p.m., while Jacksonville will face No. 6 Campbell at 4 p.m.
