Stetson Succumbs to USC Upstate, Spartans in Finals

DeLAND, Fla. – With a 2-1 defeat of No. 2 Stetson, No. 4 USC Upstate moved into the finals of the 2010 Atlantic Sun Sofbtall Championship to face No. 1 Lipscomb, Saturday at Patricia Wilson Field.

Junior Lauren Quevedo smacked the game-winning RBI single to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning to bring home Kim Brasil and send the Spartans into the finals. The Wellington, Fla. native collected two hits in three at bats, while Brasil went 2-for-4 at the plate. The junior from Mississuga, Ontario also tallied an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to open up scoring for the contest.

With 429 strikeouts collected this season, including notching four against the Hatters, USC Upstate's Morgan Childers (34-7) sits nine K's shy of the A-Sun single-season strikeout record (437 - FAU's Nicole Myers). The junior from Kings Mountain, N.C. also allowed one run (earned), three hits and one walk in 3.2 innings.

Stetson's Amanda Lindsey (25-12) dominated in the circle, fanning eight Spartans in 6.2 innings. The Byhlia, Miss. native also allowed two runs (earned), in addition to six hits and eight walks.

Also for the Hatters, senior Amy Joyce went 3-for-4 at the plate, while senior Jessica Lokeinsky collected one hit in two at bats. The Cooper City, Fla. native tallied the squad's lone RBI on the day on a hit-by-pitch in the top of the seventh inning.

No. 4 USC Upstate and No. 1 Lispcomb will battle each other for the A-Sun Tournament title and an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
