Thursday, July 08, 2010 DeLand, Fla. - Carolyn Boyd of the Stetson softball team, a rising senior academically and junior athletically, has been named chairperson of the Atlantic Sun Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and will take a spot on the national NCAA Division I SAAC. As part of the national group, Boyd will have a voice in shaping NCAA policy as it relates to issues affecting all Division I student-athletes. Boyd's service began June 1 and will run through July 1, 2012; she was elected as Stetson's campus SAAC president in April. She will join the 30 other conference SAAC chairs on the national Division I committee and will replace graduated Jacksonville University women's basketball student-athlete Danielle Gray as the A-Sun's representative. According to NCAA.org, the mission of the NCAA Division I SAAC is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete well being, and fostering a positive student-athlete image. As chair of the A-Sun committee, Boyd will coordinate the league-wide annual fundraising competition and serve as the main student-athlete liaison to Commissioner Ted Gumbart and other league officials on conference issues. |
