DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson softball team (1-3) earned its first win of the 2011 season to wrap up the Stetson Lead-off Classic on Saturday, defeating Boston College 6-2 in its nightcap. Sophomore pitcher Camille Czarnecki (Edmonton, Alta.) threw five scoreless innings to earn her first career victory.

The Hatters broke open a scoreless tie with three runs in the third inning, tacking on two more in the fourth and one in the fifth to cruise out to a 6-0 lead that would not be seriously threatened. Junior shortstop Chelsey Trotto (Lantana, Fla.) had an RBI double with sophomore catcher Jordan Cleghorn (Ball Ground, Ga.) and sophomore second baseman Alyssa Oddo (Covina, Calif.) adding RBI singles in the third frame. Stetson's runs in the fourth came on a BC throwing error and an RBI infield single by senior third baseman Jill Semento (Umatilla, Fla.) while Trotto dropped down a beautiful bunt for an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Boston College got on the scoreboard with a solo home run from center fielder Maria Pandolfo in the bottom of the sixth and added another run in the seventh, but Oddo, Trotto and junior first baseman Carolyn Boyd (Germantown, Tenn.) combined on a game-ending double play to shut down the Eagle rally. Freshman center fielder Chrissy Morello (Ormond Beach, Fla.) had two hits, stole two bases and scored twice; Oddo, Trotto and junior left fielder Brittany Knipp (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) also had two hits.
