Lanier Leads FGCU to Four Wins; Sigrest Shuts Out Two

MACON, Ga. – FGCU’s Emily Lanier and Jacksonville’s Sarah Sigrest earned the Atlantic Sun Conference softball weekly awards, announced Monday by the league office. Lanier propelled the Eagles to a 4-3 week with her team-leading .412 batting average on the week, while Sigrest recorded shutouts against Saint Joseph’s and Toledo for the Dolphins.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Emily Lanier, FGCU (C/1BOF – Fr. – St. Cloud, Fla. - Biology)
• First A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Batted .412 on the week with two doubles and two home runs
• Drove in two RBI against Saint John’s in the 5-0 victory against the Red Storm
• Hit home runs in back-to-back days in the Eagles home tournament
• Tied for second on the team in walks and homers

OTHER NOMINEES:
• Lindsey Vollmer (SS, Kennesaw State) – Drove in six RBI in 12-1 victory against Niagara on three hits
• Megan Balding (DP/RF, Jacksonville) – Batted team-best .333 with a double, home run and six RBI at USF Invitational
• Sam Lower (IF, ETSU) – Went 5-for-12 at USF Invitational with a homer including two hits against Arkansas
• Lauren Quevedo (1B, USC Upstate) – Recorded hits in five of the Spartans’ six wins; notched three extra-base hits
• Taylor McGee (C, Campbell) – Led Camels with a 4-for-9 week at the plate and platted two runs

PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Sarah Sigrest, Jacksonville (Jr. – Daphne, Ala. – Exercise Science)
• Seventh Career A-Sun Pitcher of the Week
• Earned three wins on the week with 22 strikeouts in 22.2 innings of work
• Recorded an eight-inning shutout victory against Saint Joseph’s allowing only two hits
• Shutout Toledo with eight strikeouts and only two hits allowed to finish off the week
• Also earned victory against Villanova and a save vs. Maine
 
OTHER NOMINEES:
• Cortney Radke (Fr., UNF) – Hurled first-career no-hitter against Florida A&M by fanning 14
• Katie Woodcock (Sr., Campbell) – Led team with six strikeouts allowed only one earned run
• Camille Czarnecki (So., Stetson) – 3-0 record on the week at the Stetson Invitational with one shutout
• Catherine McDaniel (Sr., FGCU) – Earned shutout win against St. John's; 0.64 ERA for the week
• Morgan Childers (Sr., USC Upstate) – Claimed 100th career victory in championship game against Charleston Southern with 15 strikeouts
• Jessica Cross (Jr., Kennesaw State) – Tossed one-hit shutout against Austin Peay on Sunday
• Jessica Duncan (Sr., ETSU) – Struck out nine batters and allowed one earned run in win against Columbia
