Lady Bisons Down Providence at Chanticleer Challenge

CONWAY, S.C. - Lipscomb rallied for eight runs in the seventh inning against Providence in the Chanticleer Challenge to clinch a victory over the Big East Conference opponent.

Vanessa Medina opened the seventh with a single through the left side. Lacy Walker replaced Medina as a pinch-runner. Caroline Mason walked. Rena’ Cothron pinch-hit for Haley Elliott and grounded out to second moving Mason to second and Walker to third.

Bridgette Begle singled to second to bring in Walker and Mason. Bree Thurman singled up the middle. Mackenzie Tucker reached base on a fielder’s choice. Courtney Billington also singled to second and brought in Begle and Thurman.

Medina, batting for the second time in the inning, hit a grand slam to left center.

Mason led the Lady Bisons with three hits. Begle had two hits. The Lady Bisons finished with nine hits. Medina’s home run was the only extra base hit in the game.

J.J. Nelson started against Providence and gave up five hits and two runs in four innings. She struck out one and walked three.

Ali Watson relieved and threw three shutout innings for the win to even her record at 1-1. She allowed one hit and struck out two
