Ospreys Top Rutgers, 9-3, in Non-Conference Clash

CLEARWATER, Fla. - UNF opened day two of the USF The Game Tournament at the Eddie C. Moore Complex with a 9-3 victory against Rutgers of the Big East Conference.

Junior Kaley Brosky hit 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead North Florida over Rutgers, 9-3, in game one. Eight of nine Osprey batters connected for at least one hit during the game, tallying 12 hits on the Scarlet Knights’ pitchers.

North Florida’s freshman pitcher Cortney Radke (12-8) hurled a complete game, allowing three runs – two earned – while striking out 10 and walking just one.

Rutgers went up 2-0 early in the first inning, but would be shutdown until the seventh inning when it added just one more run. The Ospreys had tied the game at 2-2 by the end of the third inning.

North Florida exploded for five runs in the fourth to take a commanding 7-2 lead. Brosky batted in the final two runs of the inning on a single to right field, plating runners from first and third base.

After two more runs in the sixth for the North Florida squad, making the score 9-2, Rutgers attempted a late rally in the seventh but would manage just one run.

The Scarlet Knights’ starting hurler Megan Williams (5-3) was tagged with the loss after pitching just 3.0 innings and allowing five runs – all earned – on eight hits.
