MACON, Ga. – FGCU utilized the performances of senior outfielder Courtney Platt and sophomore pitcher Stephanie Sullivan to sweep USC Upstate and ETSU and earn the duo the Atlantic Sun Softball Weekly Awards, announced Monday by the league office.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Courtney Platt, FGCU (LF – Sr. – Naples, Fla. – Biology)
• Second A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Batted .636 on the week with seven hits, four extra-base hits and 10 RBI
• Led Eagles to home sweeps of USC Upstate and ETSU
• Improved FGCU to 8-2 in league play in third place
• Recorded a 1.455 slugging percentage with five runs scored
OTHER NOMINEES:
• Lauren Stephan (OF/P, Campbell) – Belted four homers with three in game two against Owls
• Caroline Mason (OF, Lipscomb) – Added three home runs to her season total of eight
• Jessica Cross (DP/OF, Kennesaw State) – Hit three four-baggers at Campbell with eight RBI
• Sarah Simon (C, Jacksonville) – Combined to hit for cycle at Belmont in two JU wins
• Lauren Quevedo (1B, USC Upstate) – Notched four hits against Stetson with three RBI
• Becca Gift (Utility, Belmont) – Helped Bruins to first conference win against UNF
PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Stephanie Sullivan, FGCU (So. – Venice, Fla. – Education)
• First Career A-Sun Pitcher of the Week
• Picked up two wins on the weekend without allowing a run
• Hurled a one-hitter against ETSU and held USC Upstate to three hits
• Both wins were complete game shutouts
• Fanned eight total batters on the week
OTHER NOMINEES:
• Morgan Childers (Sr., USC Upstate) – Earned her 108th career victory to tie A-Sun mark for wins
• Jessica Cross (Jr., Kennesaw State) – Allowed one earned run on four hits in win against Camels
• Whitney Kiihnl (Jr., Lipscomb) – Fanned 11 Dolphins in 4-0 home victory against JU
