Tuesday, April 26, 2011 BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Freshman Olivia Scarborough threw a complete-game no-hitter with a career-high nine strikeouts to lead Campbell's softball team (30-24, 11-9 Atlantic Sun) to a 10-0 five inning run-shortened victory over North Carolina Central (6-32) on Monday, April 25 at the Eakes Athletic Complex. Scarborough's no-hitter (4-3) was the first for a Campbell pitcher since Brittany Stanley threw a perfect game against Gardner-Webb in 2008 exactly three years to the day. The only blemish against the freshman was the four walks she scattered throughout the game. The complete game was her fourth of the season and the shutout was her second of the campaign. Shamika Chavis-Hodge (0-7) allowed nine runs (five earned) in 3.1 innings thrown in the loss for the Eagles. CU's offense exploded for 10 hits, four walks and 10 runs in the game. Three different Campbell players hit home runs in the win. Freshman Raven Lee provided all the offense the Camels would need with a game slam. Campbell started the scoring early with four runs in the opening inning. After the first two were retired, senior Amanda Miller hit a single past the third baseman. Sophomore Sarah Forgacs followed with a single through the right side. Senior Lauren Stephan then reached first on an error from the NCCU third baseman to load the bases. Lee followed with her sixth blast of the season. |
