MACON, Ga. – FGCU's Kelsey Carpenter and Kennesaw State's Amanda Henderson take home the second Atlantic Sun Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors, announced by the league office on Monday. Carpenter picked up her first career Player of the Week honors after compiling five total runs, a home run and two triples. Henderson snagged Pitcher of the Week after totaling 21 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched with a win and two saves.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Kelsey Carpenter, FGCU (1B/OF - Fr. - Oviedo, Fla. - Physical Therapy)
- First Career A-Sun Player of the Week award
- Went 9-for-17 with five runs, two triples and a home run on the week
- Went 3-for-4 in the 10-2 run-rule win against Binghamton ending the game with an RBI single
- Hit her second home run of the season against Delaware and also had two hits in the win against UT-Martin
- Ended the week with a .529 batting average, five runs, four RBI, two triples and a home run
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Sam Lower (INF, ETSU) – Went 6-for-12 with two doubles and a home run on the week
- Carolyn Boyd (1B, Stetson) – Batted .700 in a three-game sweep of Bethune-Cookman to lead the Hatters to 6-0 record
- Kelsey Carpenter (1B/OF., FGCU) – Went 9-for-17 with five runs and two triples and a home run
- Sharon Swanson (INF, Kennesaw State) – Hit two home runs to give the Owls a 3-1 record in the College of Charleston Classic
- Janna Lewis (2B, USC Upstate) – Finished the week with a .667 batting average and had five runs
- Jackie Reese (Catcher, North Florida) – Led the Ospreys in hitting with a .667 batting average and four RBI
- Kassie Bailey (OF, Mercer) – Led the Bears with a .400 batting average and four RBI
- Kelsey Cartwright (INF, Lipscomb) – Hit her first-career home run in a Lipscomb uniform and lead the Bisons with a .333 batting average
PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Amanda Henderson, Kennesaw State (So. – Covington, Ga. – International Business)
- First Career A-Sun Pitcher of the Week
- Went 1-0 on the week with two saves, allowing just one hit against Marshall
- Compiled 21 strikeouts in just 11 innings to help lead the Owls to a 3-1 week
- Picked up her two saves in both of the Owls' victories on Friday
- Ended the week with a 0.64 ERA with one earned run and five hits
OTHER NOMINEES:
Shelby Morgan (Fr., FGCU) – Went 2-0 in the FGCU tournament, throwing a shutout against UT-Martin
Courtney Brandt (Fr., Stetson) – Went 2-0 with a 0.78 ERA and allowed just one earned run against Bethune-Cookman
Lacey Dinney (Sr.,USC Upstate) – Hit her first career no-hitter against UNC Wilmington
Kayla Goff (Fr., North Florida) – Came in relief in two games and had nine strikeouts
Whitney Kiihnl (Sr., Lipscomb) – Threw her seventh career no-hitter against Butler
Whitney Leon (Fr., ETSU) – Helped lead ETSU to its first win of the season, collecting her first collegiate win
