Cross', Wallace's Stellar Performances Get A-Sun Honors

MACON, Ga. – Kennesaw State's Jessica Cross and North Florida's Kaylie Wallace earned the Atlantic Sun Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors, announced by the league office on Monday. Cross batted .467 on the week with four RBI to lead the Owls to a 3-2 week, while Wallace posted a 2-0 record with 18 strikeouts.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Jessica Cross, Kennesaw State
(P/DP - Sr. - Tunnel Hill, Ga. - English Education)

  • First Career A-Sun Player of the Week award
  • Helped the Owls to a 3-2 record on the week batting .467 at the plate
  • Went 2-for-2 with a home run and a double in the 9-0 win over ETSU
  • Tacked on two more home runs in the Owls 7-2 win over USC Upstate
  • Ended the week with three home runs and four RBI in a 7-for-15 performance (.467)
OTHER NOMINEES:
  • Ashley Byers (1B, Belmont) – Had three hits and three RBI in opening weekend of conference play
  • Mariah Reynolds (DP, North Florida) – Tallied two runs, one double and one homer and five RBI on the week
  • Ronnie Gajownik (SS, Jacksonville) – Led the Dolphins in home runs (2), RBI (5) and total bases (13)
  • Jackie Baird (C/IF, ETSU) – Posted three multi-hit games, while going 6-for-15 (.400) and tacking on a grand slam
  • Chelsea Zgrabik (C, FGCU) – Went 4-for-11 with two homers and five RBI
  • Kassie Bailey (1B/P, Mercer) – Had a team-high six RBI in four games, adding to her season-lead of 26 for the Bears
  • Caroline Mason (OF, Lipscomb) – Hit her 20th career home run against North Florida
PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Kaylie Wallace, North Florida

  • Second Career A-Sun Pitcher of the Week; second of the season
  • Went 2-0 on the week with 18 strikeouts, leading UNF to a 4-3 week
  • Ended the week with a 0.91 ERA, allowing just three earned runs
  • Pitched 23 innings on the week and her two wins were both shutouts
OTHER NOMINEES:
  • Meredith Owen (So., Stetson) – Totaled nine strikeouts on the week and went 1-1 against FGCU
  • Abbey Mixon (Jr., Kennesaw State) – Pitched a complete game, four-hit shutout in the second game against ETSU
  • Jessica Holsinger (Fr., Mercer) – Went 2-0 on the week with one save and a 1.98 ERA
  • Amanda Josie (So., FGCU) – Went 2-2 on the week with two complete games, only allowing three earned runs
