MACON, Ga. - Belmont's Mia Vierra and FGCU's Shelby Morgan earned the Atlantic Sun Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors, announced by the league office on Monday. Vierra led the Bruins to their first conference sweep since 2009 with two wins against Stetson, while Morgan had a two-hit complete game shutout against Lipscomb
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Mia Vierra, Belmont (P/3B/DP - So. - Palmdale, Calif.)
- First Career A-Sun Player of the Week award
- Helped Belmont to the first conference sweep since 2009 with two wins over Stetson
- Hit her second-career home run, a grand slam to give Belmont a 5-2 advantage against Hatters
- Had a walk-off RBI in game two to give the Bruins a 2-1 win
- Hit .417 with five RBI and one run
- Also earned both wins in the circle vs. Stetson
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Sharon Swanson (INF, Kennesaw State) – Notched three multi-hit games, batting .625 at the plate
- Courtney Brandt (DP, Stetson) – Her RBI double helped Stetson to a 1-0 win over Lipscomb
- Emily Lanier (UTL/1B, FGCU) – Averaged .600 at the plate with three RBI and four runs
PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Shelby Morgan, FGCU (Fr. – High Springs, Fla. – Nursing)
- First Career A-Sun Pitcher of the Week Award
- Went 2-0 on the week with five strikeouts defeating Lipscomb and Belmont
- Won pitching contest against Whitney Kiihnl with a two-hit complete game shutout
- Had a 0.58 ERA for the weekend
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Hannah Alexander (So., USC Upstate) – Led the Spartans to three wins with two complete game shutouts
- Amanda Henderson (So., Kennesaw State) – Earned a save and two wins this weekend against UNF and Jacksonville
- Meredith Owen (So., Stetson) – Led Stetson to its first ever sweep of Lipscomb
