Belmont

Belmont wrapped up regular season play over the weekend, splitting with visiting Birmingham-Southern. The Panthers took game one, 11-1, but the Bruins rebounded in the nightcap behind the pitching of sophomore Sammi Parks (Riverside, Calif.) and won 6-0. Sophomore Sarah Vaughn (Lenoir City, Tenn.) batted a blistering .800 over the two games, going 4-for-5 with two RBI. Junior Angie Helseth (Vancouver, Wash.) went 3-for-5 with one run and three RBI for .600. Parks tossed the entire second game and finished with a 0.00 ERA, allowing only one hit.

Campbell

Campbell wrapped up its regular season 27-38-1 with a sweep over in-state rival Gardner-Webb. The Camels have shutout three-consecutive Atlantic Sun opponents, all three against the top hitting teams in the league. Freshman Brittany Stanley improved her consecutive scoreless inning streak to 24.0 innings after holding GWU scoreless over an 8-inning ball game.

ETSU

ETSU wrapped up regular season play Friday afternoon with a split to Mercer. After rallying back from a three-run deficit by scoring two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth, the Bucs dropped a nine inning heartbreaker in game one, when Crystal Condra's two-out RBI single gave the Bears the 4-3 win. However, ETSU's bats lit up in the nightcap, tallying seven runs in the final two innings to capture the 8-0 victory in five innings. On Wednesday, the Bucs split with Western Carolina as Amanda Haverman's game-winning three-run home run lifted ETSU to victory in game one. Freshman Darci Gilbert earned her 10th win of the season as she tossed her second complete game shutout of her career against the Bears. Seven of the nine ETSU hitters recorded a hit in the game two win, while senior Stephanie Gaynord and sophomore Mary Catherine Vercoe led the Bucs with three RBI apiece. After being projected to finish sixth in the preseason poll, the Bucs claimed the third seed in the 2007 Atlantic Sun Tournament presented by Coca-Cola. ETSU will face fourth-seeded Lipscomb on Thursday, May 10. The Bucs knocked the Bisons out of first place back on April 7, after outscoring them 25-1.

Gardner-Webb

Gardner-Webb dropped a pair of close games at Campbell before rebounding to earn a split with Mercer on Senior Day. After GWU fell 4-2 in the first game and down 2-0 in the second game, the Bulldogs plated three runs in one inning to preserve the 3-2 win. Alison Coffey tossed a complete game and the Bulldogs clinched at least the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, marking the first time GWU has been higher than the No. 6 seed. The Bulldogs are off until the conference tournament.

Jacksonville

After a week off from finals, the Dolphins return to the diamond for the last time this season as they host Stetson in an Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheader at the JU Softball Complex on Thursday. The matc hup will also be the last home doubleheader for seniors Valerie Alter, Katie Buell and Renee LaCroix. JU will also look to end the season on a high note after dropping seven of the last eight conference games.

Kennesaw State

The Owls, who clinched a share of the A-Sun regular season title with a win over Mercer on Wednesday, ended the year over the weekend by winning the 2007 KSU Invitational with an 8-0 victory over Cal State Bakersfield. The Owls also said goodbye to six seniors this weekend; Megan Gant, Missy Hobdy, Janet Kearns, April Keasler, Keri McKee and Jennifer Nolan. McKee homered in Sunday afternoon's semifinal while Nolan hit a home run in the championship game and Kearns pithced a complete-game shutout. McKee set yet another school record when she hit her record 65th double against CSUB. The hit also tied the single-season doubles mark of 22. McKee, who was the MVP of the tournament, is also Kennesaw State's all-time leader in hits and runs batted in and ends her career as the second-ever player to hit over .400 for her career. Three-time Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week, Brittany Matthews, had another outstanding performance when she broke her own school-record with a 16-strikeout performance against Northern Colorado on Friday. Matthews struck out 16 of the 221 batters she faced and took a perfect game into the seventh inning. Matthews finished the year with 246 strikeouts, the second highest total in school history. Christina Caldwell struck out 252 batters in 1999. Matthews is also just seven strikeouts away from the all-time record of 613 hled by Lisa Macki.

Lipscomb

Freshman pitcher Christen Campbell slammed a walk-off grand slam, the first or her career, to win her own game 13-9 Thursday against Middle Tennessee State University The Lady Bisons have three hitters in the top seven in the conference in hitting: freshman Abby keese and junior Heather Collins, tied for fifth with .369 averages) and freshman Lauren Dortwegt in sixth with a .367 average. The Lady Bisons are back in the conference tournament for the second time in the past three seasons.

Mercer

The Bears had a solid week, splitting in all three of their doubleheaders. Mercer started the week with a split against league-leader Kennesaw State, falling in the first game, 7-1, and taking the second game, 3-1. The Bears then traveled to Johnson City and took game one against the Bucs, 4-3, to clinch their berth to the conference tournament, but fell in the second game, 8-0. Mercer wrapped up its conference schedule at Gardner-Webb on a high note, defeating the Bulldogs in the first game, 4-2, and dropping a 3-2 decision in game two. Senior Kelley Bretscher is just one start away from holding the all-time career starts record at Mercer.

UNF

UNF did not play last week … the Lady Ospreys will return to the field on Friday when they travel to Florida State for a doubleheader before returning home to close out the season against A-Sun foe Stetson on Saturday … UNF lost its only other meeting with Stetson earlier this years 2-1 … the Lady Ospreys and Seminoles have never met … UNF can finish no lower than sixth in the conference standings and could finish as high as fourth with a pair of wins against Stetson … with Kara Rutenbar's solo home run against Kennesaw State in the team's last outing, UNF now has 34 home runs this season, setting a new season high for the Lady Ospreys.

Stetson

Stetson needs one win to capture the top seed in the A-Sun Championship for the second straight year and seventh time overall.
