FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU softball team received two votes in this week's Ultimate College Softball Top 25 that was announced on Tuesday.
This the second time this season that the Eagles have earned a vote in a Division 1 national poll. "It is an honor to earn votes in the Top 25 and be mentioned along with the best teams in college softball," said Head Coach Dave Deiros. "Our team is playing very well right now and deserves the recognition."
FGCU has a 36-8 overall record, including winning 34 of their last 39 games. Senior Carmen Paez (Belle Glade, Fla.) has been named A-Sun Player of the Week twice this season while senior Rachael Edinger (Lakeland, Fla.) and freshman Morgan Campen (Rougemont, N.C.) have each earned an A-Sun Pitcher of the Week award.
Carmen Paez and Cheyenne Jenks (Naples, Fla.) are leading the Eagles offense, batting .409 and .389, respectively. Carmen Paez is currently the A-Sun's leader in home runs (17) and RBI's (49).
The Eagles will face a pair of A-Sun foes in Nashville, Tenn. for double-header action this weekend. FGCU and Lipscomb will battle on Friday, March 28 and on Saturday, March 29 the Eagles will meet the Belmont Bruins.
