Childers Sweeps Up the Competition for POTW

MACON, Ga. - USC Upstate sophomore and 2008 Pitcher of the Year Morgan Childers tossed 24 strikeouts to go 4-0 on the week to earn her second career Pitcher of the Week Award. Robin Leathers scored 13 runs on the week in Campbell's five wins to earn Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Childers who went 4-0 on the week, started three of the four games in sweeps at Western Carolina and at home against A-Sun foe UNF. In the UNF series, she matched up with UNF standout Devyn Findley and took two wins over her while dishing out two losses to Findley. The Kings Mountain, N.C., native tossed four innings and gave up just one hit with five strikeouts in the 9-2 rout of Western Carolina in game one. The secondary education major threw out eight innings to earn the 3-2 win in game two.

Against UNF, the 2008 Freshman of the Year tossed 11 innings, struck out 11 and allowed just four hits total in picking up the two wins. Childers went the distance in game one. She struck out seven and allowed two hits in the pitcher's duel against Findley. In game two, she entered the game in the fourth with the score tied 1-1 and tossed four innings of relief to earn the 2-1 win over UNF. Childers leads the A-Sun with 197 batters struck out and places third in wins with 16.

Leathers, a junior, led the Camels to five wins on the week. The third baseman hit .464 with 13 runs scored, 13 hits, two doubles, six home runs, nine RBI and 33 total bases. The Tucson, Ariz., native added four walks and three stolen bases to her resume. She continued her torrid home run pace in conference play with four more home runs and has now hit eight home runs against Atlantic Sun competition this season. She comes in at third with 13 season home runs in the A-Sun standings.

Leathers had at least a hit in all eight games Campbell played this week and scored a run in all but one, plus earned an RBI in every game. Leathers began week with a home run and two RBI in the doubleheaders against Mercer. The kinesiology major completed her week with two hits including the game-winning home run in the 2-1 victory against Lipscomb. In the second game against the Bisons, Leathers scored two more runs and also hit a home run. She became only the fifth player to ever reach double figures in home runs in a season for Campbell and now shares the team lead in home run. The 13 home runs tie for the fourth most in a single season in the Campbell record books.

Whitney Kiihnl, Lipscomb (P - Batesville, Miss. - Fr. - Biology) -- Whitney started game one of a douibleheader with Campbell and pitched a complete game 2-1 loss and then came back and threw 6.2 innings in relief in game two in a 9-6 win, with a season-high 14 strikeouts, including 12 of the first 15 batters she faced.

Courtney Platt, FGCU (RF - Naples, Fla. - So. - Human Performance) -- Platt led the Eagles to a 3-1 record last week to help the Eagles become the first team to win 40 games this season. For the week, Platt hit .625 with a 1.750 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage. She also had three home runs, eight RBI, and a stolen base on the week. In FGCU's two games at Mercer, Platt finished a perfect 4-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI, two runs scored, and two walks. In FGCU's two game sweep of Kennesaw State, Platt hit .250 with a home run, three RBI, and a pair of walks. Platt is among the conference leaders in many categories, including batting average (second), on-base percentage (second), RBI (third), total bases (third), hits (sixth), and homeruns (sixth).

Page Raynor, Mercer (1B - Canton, Ga. - Sr. - Communications) -- Mercer's senior captain was on fire over the past week, batting .412 with a .500 on-base percentage to help the Bears claim four more conference wins. Raynor tallied seven hits on the week, including a double and a homer. In game two versus Campbell, she blasted a solo home run to center in the second inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Raynor showed some leather as the first baseman robbed Campbell's Amanda Miller's of a hit, snagging a screaming line-drive. Against FGCU, Raynor had four singles to help the Bears to a split with the Eagles. On Sunday, Raynor had an RBI in Mercer game one, 2-0 win over Stetson. In the night-cap with the Hatters, Raynor scored Mercer's only run in the 1-0 Bears win.

Brittany Stanley, Campbell (P - West Lafayette, Ind. - Jr. - Business) -- The junior went 3-1 with a 1.70 ERA on the week in her four starts.she pitched 24.2 innings and fanned 21 while limiting opponents to a .268 batting average. She also stood out at the plate with seven hits, four doubles, a home run and six RBI. She defeated UNC Greensboro, only allowing two runs with seven strikeouts. Against Belmont, she allowed four runs (all in the last inning) in 6.1 innings pitched for the victory. She completed a gem with a 6.2 innings pitching dual against Lipscomb (4/4) only allowing an earned run
