DeLAND, Fla. - The 2009 Atlantic Sun Championship presented by Holiday Inn Express kicked off with the No. 3 Mercer Bears taking down the No. 4 Jacksonville, 2-0 at Patricia Wilson Field at Stetson University. Pitcher Jenni Holtz picked up the win for the Bears moving her record to 22-8.

On Mercer's third bat, Page Raynor hit a game-winning bomb to the left-center field Stetson scoreboard to put Mercer ahead, 1-0.

With Holly Oglesbee on first, Mercer’s Allison Jones singled to center field. Jacksonville center fielder Shannon Monahan threw a bad ball to third baseman Kelly McKeon to send Oglesbee home for a 2-0 lead.

Holtz tossed a complete game with four hits, seven strikeouts and no walks. Dolphin pitcher Ashley Iveson ended the game with five hits, six strikeouts and one walk.

Mercer faces the winner of the Lipscomb/ETSU game at 6:00 p.m. and Jacksonville plays the winner of the Campbell/Stetson game at 8:00 p.m.
