Camels Stay on Course for Another A-Sun Title

DeLAND, Fla. - In a rematch of the 2008 A-Sun tournament championship game, the ending was similar as Campbell bounced the Hatters, 7-5, at the 2009 Atlantic Sun Softball Championship presented by Holiday Inn Express at Patricia Wilson Field. Pitcher of the Year Brittany Stanley earned the win to improve her record to 16-4
In the second inning, on a 3-2 count, Hilary Wheatley blasted a grand slam over the left field fence after Stanley hit a single to Stetson short stop Chelsey Trotto. Trotto could not hold on the to ball as she tried to tag Christina Melton leaving the bases loaded as Wheatley stepped up to the plate. Wheatley’s game-winning run put the the Camels up 4-3.
Campbell put up two more runs in the fourth inning as Keeli Michael and Wheatley sat on second and third. Katie Hinton hit a single to second base to bring in a run. Hinton stole second and Stetson's Erica Demers walked Karlie Love to load the bases. Demers then walked Christia Melton to send Michael home. Stetson switched Nicole Peltz for Demers and Peltz got out of the inning with an out from her second baseman Jesse Tucker.
Miller finished off Campbell scoring by knocking in another run with a triple to the right field fence.
Stetson started off quick and strong with Andrea Migliori blasting a homerun. Three batters later and with two outs, Jessica Lokeinsky smashed a home run over the right field fence to put the hatters up, 3-0.
The Hatters' seventh inning rally came too late as Andrea Migliori smashed her 14th homerun of the season landing her second in A-Sun career homeruns with 56.
Stanley finished the game with six hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Stetson pitcher Amanda Lindsey got the loss in three innings with seven hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
The championship continues as Stetson faces ETSU at 4:00 p.m and No. 2 Lipscomb and No. 3 Mercer play at 6:00 p.m. Campbell and Jacksonville wrap up the day at 8:00 p.m.
