Six Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

Four Atlantic Sun softball student-athletes and a pair of baseball student-athletes earned selections to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic Academic All-District First and Second Teams.
On the baseball side, Jacksonville's Jeremy Gillan landed on the First Team and Kennesaw State's Chad Jenkins made the Second Team.
Gillan, a Port St. Lucie, Fla. native posted a 3.74 GPA as an exercise science major to earn the honor for the first time. A preseason all-conference selection this year, Gillan leads the squad with a .412 batting average, 16 doubles, 10 home runs, 120 total bases, a .507 on-base percentage and a .706 slugging percentage. Defensively, he has been just as stellar by not committing an error while gunning down 14-of-31 (.452) base runners on the year.
Jenkins, a junior from Canton, Ga., currently leads the Atlantic Sun Conference in ERA with a 2.16 mark. The hurler recently had a streak in which he did not allow a run in 41 innings, in addition to not allowing a walk in 24.2 innings. In addition to his work on the field, Jenkins has worked just as hard in the classroom, sporting a GPA of 3.54 while working towards his degree in Accounting.
In softball, Campbell's Karlie Love made the First Team and Stetson's Andrea Migliori placed on the Second Team. A pair from Lipscomb, Kellie Sirus and Lauren Dortwegt earned selections as Sirus made the First Team with Dortwegt on the Second Team.
Sirus, a Second Team selection last season, a three-time Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team member, and a winner of the Athletic Director's Academic Excellence Award, was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference First Team by a vote of the coaches and media relations directors. She carries a 3.92 grade point average in psychology with plans to enter the nursing field.
Dortwegt was named Atlantic Sun All-Conference Second Team. She is also a three-time A-Sun All-Academic selection. Dortwegt has a 3.97 GPA in interdisciplinary teaching.
Love has posted a 3.85 grade point average in government through her academic career in Buies Creek. The Mt. Airy, N.C. native leads the team and ranks among the conference leaders in numerous offensive categories. Love leads the Camels with her .409 batting average, 54 hits, 15 home runs, 50 RBIs, .788 slugging percentage, 28 walks, a .535 on-base percentage and eight game-winning RBIs.
Migliori, one the conference's all-time sluggers, has hit 15 of Stetson's 29 home runs this season. She shares second on the A-Sun all-time list, having hit 54 long balls. The senior from Winter Garden, Fla. owns a 3.85 GPA in accounting information systems
To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, been enrolled in the institution one academic year and been a starter or important reserve. Members of CoSIDA voted on the teams for their respective district.
