|

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -Campbell's softball team (38-16) lost a back-and-forth affair to Radford (41-14) by a 9-5 score on Friday, May 15 on the second day of the Chapel Hill Regional in the NCAA Tournament. With the loss the Camels' 2009 season has ended.
Radford's biggest blow of the game came off the bat of freshman Leigh Godfrey to give RU the 6-5 advantage in the sixth inning. The home run was Godfrey's second blast of the game. Radford scored first with two runs in the first inning. Kristen Shifflett was hit by a pitch, moved to second on an infield pop out and came in to score on Nicole Beall’s single up the middle. Beall moved to second on the attempted throw home, moved to third on a steal of third and came in to score on the throwing error by the Campbell catcher on the steal attempt. The Camels wasted a leadoff single by junior Robin Leathers in the bottom of the frame. Leathers started the inning by pushing a single into left field. She then took second on the fielding error by the Radford left fielder, but was stranded as the next three were retired in order.
