Dempsey Named Player of the Week

Macon, Ga. – Stetson's Dee Ann Dempsey (Spokane, Wash./Political Science) cemented her place in Stetson volleyball history and led the Hatters to a 2-1 week. She was named A-Sun Volleyball Player of the Week today by the conference office.

Dempsey averaged 4.43 kills and 2.29 digs per game last week to lead the Hatters to an A-Sun weekend sweep over Campbell and Gardner-Webb. The victories moved the Hatters from 10th to seventh in the conference standings.

Against Campbell on Friday, Dempsey tied a career-high with 23 kills and hit .352 for the match in Stetson's 3-1 victory. The senior added eight more kills in a 3-0 win on Saturday and served a game-winning ace in the 35-33 first set win.

With 31 kills for the week, Dempsey moved into third place all-time in Stetson history with 1154 career kills. She continues to rank second in the league this season with a 3.90 kills-per-game average.

The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Player of the Week every Monday during the 2005 volleyball campaign.

The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.

Jaye Schuler, BEL (So. - MH - Lexington, Ill. - Education) -- Schuler led the Bruins to a 2-0 record this week, hitting .406 over five games against Memphis, and .375 against conference rival Lipscomb. Schuler recorded 10.0 blocks and helped Belmont extend its winning streak to seven matches.

Tabitha Turner, CAM (Jr. - OH/MH - Grennsboro, N.C. - Communications) -- Turner tallied 54 kills and 9.0 blocks last week in three matches for the Fighting Camels. She averaged 4.91 kills, 0.64 digs, 0.82 blocks and 5.36 points per game to lead Campbell against FAU, VCU and Stetson.

Jennifer Sartor, ETSU (Jr. - RS/S - Toronto, ONT - Exercise Science) -- Sartor recorded a team high 41 kills in three games this week, and hit .309 for the week. She also a tallied a team best 24 digs and 10 blocks.

Kelly Paiva, FAU (Sr. - OH - Minas Gerais, Brazil - Criminal Justice) -- Paiva averaged 7.17 kill per game as FAU picked up two A-Sun wins over Gardner-Webb and Campbell. She posted her 16th double-double of the season against Campbell with 26 kill and 10 digs. She added 19 digs.

Amy Stroder, UNF (Jr. - OH - Sugarland, Texas - Biology) -- Stroder tallied 26 kills and hit .344 for the week in victories over Jacksonville and ETSU.
