Belmont Bruins

Belmont Volleyball improved to 13-2 this past weekend with match victories at Stetson and Mercer. Junior setter Colleen Nilson recorded 107 assists and 21 digs in the two victories to earn Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors. Senior Katie Tobiasz also contributed 15 kills, seven digs, and four blocks in the win at Mercer. Belmont improved to 32-12 lifetime in the month of September under Head Coach Deane Webb. The Bruins venture out of conference as they play at Tennessee State Tuesday night, before returning to Atlantic Sun play Saturday afternoon at Lipscomb.

ETSU Bucaneers

Senior Jennifer Emerson continued her climb up the national assist rankings last week, amassing 75 assists, an average of 12.5 per game. Emerson is now averaging 13.02 assists each game, moving her up three spots to 16th on the national list this week. The Lady Bucs will put their unblemished conference mark on the line October 5 when they host North Florida in Brooks Gym. It will be the second meeting between the two schools this season. At Coastal Carolina's tournament back in September, ETSU swept past the Ospreys in three games.

Gardner-Webb Bulldogs


The Gardner-Webb volleyball team posted a 2-1 overall record last week, getting huge wins at Charleston Southern and sweeping Kennesaw State. The win over the Owls was the team's first win in A-Sun play since a 3-0 victory over Campbell on Oct. 28, 2003, snapping a 24-match league losing streak. Junior Ashley Pridgeon led the way against KSU, recording 18 kills while maintaining a .640 attack percentage. Fellow junior Audra Harrison had a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs while freshman Regina Feagin dished out a match-high 40 assists. The Bulldogs will step out of conference on Tuesday evening as they travel to Appalachian State before returning home to face Stetson on Friday night and Mercer Saturday afternoon.

Jacksonville Dolphins

Kennesaw State Owls

KSU fell to 1-14 on the season after falling at Campbell and Garnder-Webb over the weekend. The Owls will return home for the first time since Aug. 29 when they host North Florida on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.

Lipscomb Bisons

Outside hitter Cara Wilber recorded three double-doubles in a row against Austin Peay, Mercer and Stetson. The Lady Bisons are on a three-match winning streak after losing 11 in a row. Belmont travels to Allen Arena Saturday at 5 p.m. for a match between two teams picked in the preseason poll to be at or near the top of the A-Sun.

Mercer Bears

Mercer dropped its first two conference matches to Lipscomb and Belmont, both by scores of 3-1. Drennan Dexheimer recorded a career-high 15 digs in the match against Lipscomb and picked up her second double-double of the season against Belmont (10 kills/12 digs). Senior libero Liz Kane is now only 12 digs from holding the record at Mercer in career digs. Current record is held by Katie Plummer (2001-2004) with 1640 digs. The Bears will travel to North Carolina this weekend to take on Campbell and Gardner-Webb.
