Campbell Camels

Campbell is ff to its best A-Sun start in 5 years with a 2-2 league mark. The Camels broke the school block assist record with 28 in the 3-2 victory over Stetson. They broke the old mark of 24, which had been reached twice, most recently last year. Campbell wraps up its season-long six match homestand Tuesday night against North Carolina Central before hitting the road for its first A-Sun road contests of the season. The Camels are 6-5 since switching to a two-setter rotation. In the previous nine eight matches, they were 2-6.

ETSU Bucaneers

The Lady Bucs are off to a 4-0 start in conference play for the first time since 1991, having won seven consecutive matches and 10 of their last 11. ETSU kept its win streak alive with a pair of thrilling five-game victories last week, rallying from a 2-0 game deficit against Chattanooga in non-conference play, and holding off Jacksonville in five games to remain unbeaten in A-Sun action.

Gardner-Webb Bulldogs

The Gardner-Webb volleyball team went 2-1 last week. After dropping a non-conference match to Appalachian State, the Bulldogs posted A-Sun wins over Stetson (3-0) and Mercer (3-1) to improve to 3-1 in league play. Against the Hatters, GWU had three players in double figures for kills and two in digs to go along with Regina Feagin's 43 assists. Game one of the match saw the Bulldogs post their largest margin of victory on the year, 21 points. Katie Matykowski's six service aces placed her second all-time on the single match list in GWU history. This week, the Bulldogs host Winthrop on Tuesday, Oct. 10 before heading to Nashville, Tenn., to take on Belmont and Lipscomb this weekend.

Jacksonville Dolphins

The Jacksonville University volleyball team split a pair of matches to open the A-Sun schedule on the road last week. They recorded a conference-record 23 blocks against East Tennessee State, but ended up falling to the Buccaneers, 3-2. Melissa Merchant led the Dolphins with 12 blocks, tying the record for the most blocks in a conference match since 2003. The 23 total blocks by JU shatters the previous school record of 20 set in 1997 against Lamar. Sara Bendorf had 14 kills to lead JU to a 3-0 win over Kennesaw State on Oct. 7.

Kennesaw State Owls

The Owls dropped their eighth straight match after being swept by UNF and Jacksonville over the weekend. Freshman Jenny Black led the way for the Owls, posting 16 kills and eight digs.

Lipscomb Bisons

Cara Wilber had a team-leading 12 kills, which also tied her for the match high, Saturday against Belmont in a three-game match. She added 12 digs giving her four consecutive games with double-doubles in kills and digs. Ann Mullins, who leads the A-Sun in digs, finished with a team-leading 14 against Belmont. Jessica Turner posted a season high for service aces with three against Belmont. The Lady Bisons have a busy week ahead with a non-conference game Tuesday at home against Tennessee-Chattanooga and A-Sun games Friday and Saturday at Allen Arena against Campbell and Gardner-Webb.

Mercer Bears

Mercer split during the weekend, earning its first conference win against Campbell, 3-0, and falling to Gardner-Webb, 3-1. Senior libero Liz Kane broke the Mercer career record for digs. The previous record was held by Katie Plummer (2001-2004) with 1,640 digs. Kane's eight digs against GWU put her total at 1,647 to take the number one spot. Setter Kelly Jansen recorded her first double-double in the match against Gardner-Webb. Jansen dished out 55 assists and registered 10 digs. Junior Drennan Dexheimer recorded a career-high six service aces against Campbell. The Bears will take on Charlotte Tuesday night in North Carolina to start a three-match non-conference run.
