Saturday, November 14, 2009 There were a lot of reasons to celebrate in Allen Arena today. Along with it being senior day and honoring Erin Pierce, Amy Trykowski, and Kaley Mohr, the Lipscomb Volleyball team celebrated a 3-1 win over ETSU, giving them a perfect 20-0 conference record, making them the first team in Atlantic Sun history to ever go undefeated in double round-robin play. “The girls have worked hard all year,” said coach Brandon Rosenthal. “They took one match at a time, and had always had their sights set on this. But like we have said all year, this is just the beginning of the season.” ETSU took Lipscomb into four sets, making it only the second time all year that the Lady Bisons dropped a set within a match. Lispcomb held the advantage in the first two sets 25-15 and 25-18. ETSU won set three 25-15, despite a six point run the Lady Bisons used to tie the set 18-18. Lipscomb finally got their 20th straight conference 25-17 in the fourth set. “In the third set, ETSU played well and we didn’t,” said Rosenthal. We didn’t really execute. We kind of got complacent in what we were trying to do. But these girls knew how to do it, it was just a matter of all the girls getting on the same page and it turned out well.” Meghan Hinemeyer led the Lady Bisons with 14 kills, with Alex Kelly adding 12 and Kaycee Green with 11. Seniors Amy Trykowski led the Bisons with a .500 hitting percentage and senior Erin Pierce was 2nd with a .375 hitting percentage. |
