MACON, Ga. - Each day from August 20th through the 27th, the Atlantic Sun Conference will preview the upcoming 2010 volleyball season with the A-Sun Two-A-Days, where we interview a player or coach from each of the eleven A-Sun teams. Today we talked with Paige Pridgeon from UNF and Stephanie Canfield of Stetson.
Tournament to Watch: Best Western Invitational (Sept. 10-11) - After playing on the road in two straight tournaments, UNF returns home to host a tournament of their own with Chattanooga, Troy, Charleston Southern and Illinois-Chicago coming into Jacksonville.
Player to Watch: Paige Pridgeon, So., Outside Hitter - As a freshman, Pridgeon led the team in aces with 48, while she also adding 315 kills and 271 digs, both good for second on the team. A native of Tallahassee, Fla., Pridgeon was named to the Preseason All-Atlantic Sun team.
First Conference Game: UNF squares off with Stetson on the First of October in the opening A-Sun conference slate before facing FGCU the following day. Last season, the Ospreys swept the Hatters but fell both times to FGCU.
Tournament to Watch: Stetson Invitational (Sept. 3-4) - The Hatters welcome four teams to DeLand, Fla. for the Labor Day Weekend Tournament. Stetson faces Bethune-Cookman and Florida Atlantic on Friday and then wrap up action with Wofford and Wyoming on Saturday.
Player to Watch: Sam Freeman, Jr., Middle Blocker - Freeman started in 25 matches last season recording 60 blocks, second on the team, to go along with 85 kills, seven service aces and 34 digs. She also ranked second on the team in attack percentage.
First Conference Game: The Hatters and USC Upstate Spartans face one another on September 17th in Spartanburg, S.C. to open up the 2010 season. Last season, the Spartans swept the Hatters, but the two teams split the season series.
