MACON, Ga. - Each day from August 20th through the 27th, the Atlantic Sun Conference will preview the upcoming 2010 volleyball season with the A-Sun Two-A-Days, where we interview a player or coach from each of the eleven A-Sun teams. Today we talked with Lauren Baufield from ETSU and Lauren Garza of Campbell.
Tournament to Watch: Buccaneer Classic (Sept. 10-11) - The Buccaneers bring in Austin Peay, UNC Greensboro and UNC Asheville for their home tournament of the season. ETSU squares off against Austin Peay on Friday the 10th before facing intra-state foes, UNCG and UNCA on Saturday.
Player to Watch: Whitney Cogburn, Sr., S/RS - Cogburn led the team in kills with 270 and also capped the year with a career high 243 digs. She ended the year with 11 double-doubles to go along with a career high 47 blocks.
First Conference Game: Campbell is the Atlantic Sun opener for the Buccaneers on October 1st, when ETSU travels to Buies Creek, N.C. The Camels claimed both victories last season winning 3-1 and 3-2 in the season matchups.
Tournament to Watch: Carolina Classic (Aug. 27-28) - The Camels receive an early test when they trek to Chapel Hill to face Villanova, North Carolina and Penn State, the three-time defending national champions. Last season, Campbell opened the season at a tournament hosted by North Carolina State and the Camels came away with a 4-0 record.
Player to Watch: Emily Werner, Sr., Outside Hitter - As a junior last season, Werner led the team in kills on 18 occasions. She currently sits just outside Campbell's all-time top-10 in kills, attacks and points. She led the team in kills, attacks and points last season.
First Conference Game: The Camels start conference play in late-September against USC Upstate at Spartanburg. Last season, Campbell swept the season series with 3-1 victories in both meetings.
