MACON, Ga. - Each day from August 20th through the 27th, the Atlantic Sun Conference will preview the upcoming 2010 volleyball season with the A-Sun Two-A-Days, where we interview a player or coach from each of the eleven A-Sun teams. Today we talked with Sabrita Gulley from Kennesaw State and Carly Frazier of Belmont.
Tournament to Watch: Belmont Invitational (Aug. 27-28) - On opening weekend of the 2010 season, Belmont brings into town Miami (Ohio), Memphis and Jacksonville State for the Belmont Invitational. Last season, the Bruins finished with a 11-4 home record and 13-7 mark in conference games.
Player to Watch: Maggie Johnson, Jr., Outside Hitter - As a sophomore, Johnson led the Bruins in kills with 427, which ranked fourth in the conference en route to being named First Team All-Atlantic Sun. Johnson, a Preseason All-Atlantic Sun member, recorded double figure kills in 26 matches and led Belmont in kills in 23 of 33 matches.
First Conference Game: Belmont welcomes the conference's two Georgia schools on the opening weekend of A-Sun play for the Bruins. On Friday, Kennesaw State comes to Nashville for a 6:30 matchup, while the following day the Bruins and Bears square off at 2 p.m. Belmont split the season series last year against both squads.
Tournament to Watch: Owl Invitational (Sept. 17-18) - After three straight road tournaments, KSU returns home for the Owl Invitational, where they host Presbyterian, Troy, Coastal Carolina and Ohio State. In 2009, Kennesaw went 3-0 in their home tournament en route to a 17-12 season.
Player to Watch: Rachael Albright, Jr., S/DS - Albright led the team in assists last season along the way to setting the KSU single-season record with 624. The junior also ranked fourth on the team in digs with 233 to go along with recording nine double-doubles.
First Conference Game: The Owls open the A-Sun season with a trip to Tennessee to face Belmont on October 1st and defending A-Sun Champions, Lipscomb, the following day. KSU split the season series with Belmont last season by claiming a victory at home over the Bruins, but fell both times to the Lady Bisons.
