MACON, Ga. - Each day from August 20th through the 27th, the Atlantic Sun Conference will preview the upcoming 2010 volleyball season with the A-Sun Two-A-Days, where we interview a player or coach from each of the eleven A-Sun teams. Today we talked with Jake Pease, the 2010 A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year, from the defending A-Sun Champions, Lipscomb.
Tournament to Watch: Blue and Gold Tourney (Sept. 3-4) - Labor Day Weekend, the defending A-Sun Champions travel to Pittsburgh, Pa.to face Purdue, host school Pitt and Tulane, a 2009 NCAA Volleyball Tournament participant. The Lady Bisons play in three other tournaments in the non-conference schedule with games against Kansas, South Carolina, St. Louis and Creighton.
Player to Watch: Alex Kelly, Sr., Middle Blocker - The two-time defending A-Sun Player of the Year returns for her senior season to try for the repeat of the award. Last season, Kelly ranked 12th in the NCAA in points per set (5.07), 21st in kills per set (4.35) and 38th in hitting percentage (.355), while also leading the A-Sun in kills (452) and points (527).
First Conference Game: Mercer and Kennesaw State come to Allen Arena to open conference play for the Lady Bisons on October 1-2. Last season, Lipscomb went undefeated in league play with a 20-0 mark en route to also claiming the A-Sun Tournament title. The team has won 25-consecutive regular season conference games coming into this season.
