Saturday, November 06, 2010 NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Lipscomb Lady Bisons earned their second Atlantic Sun Conference regular season championship in a row when they closed out their final road trip of the regular season with a 3-0 sweep of Stetson Saturday afternoon in DeLand, Fla.
“It means a lot to me to win the regular season championship again,” Lipscomb coach Brandon Rosenthal said. “It’s hard not to get a little bit emotional about it when you look at all of the time and effort we put in and little things that we do.
“We want to not only be not only a championship program, but a team that does it every year. The girls are excited. We are all excited.”
The Lady Bisons won 25-13, 25-19 and 25-10.
The win guarantees the Lady Bisons, 9-0 in the A-Sun, the top seed in the conference tournament Nov. 18-20 in Fort Myers, Fla. The Lady Bisons are 20-6 overall, marking the fourth season in a row they have won 20 or more matches.
“Stetson had been playing well as of late,” Rosenthal said. “We didn’t want to take them lightly. We had to go about our business and do the things we know how to do.
“In the first set we did a nice job of that. In the second set we kind of got out of rhythm. In the third set we found our way back.” Middle blocker Alex Kelly led the Lady Bisons in kills with 13 and digs with 15, both match highs.
Right side Charlyn Ursell made 11 kills and finished with a .556 hitting percentage. |
