Pease, Kelly and Albritton Earn AVCA Honors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Two Lipscomb Lady Bisons volleyball players, middle blocker Alex Kelly and setter Stefine “Jake” Pease have been named to the South Region team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Pease was the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year for 2010, while Kelly was the A-Sun Tournament MVP. The duo also appeared on the AVCA South Region team last season.

“Anytime players garner achievements like this it is often not only for the program, but for their sakes,” Lady Bisons coach Brandon Rosenthal said. “You have to also look a little bit closer into what is going on there.

The Lady Bisons, the A-Sun regular season and tournament champion for the past two seasons, advanced to the NCAA Tournament where they lost to Ohio State 3-1 on Dec. 4. For Pease and Kelly it was their third trip to the NCAA Tournament during their playing careers.

“We are in a very tough region with the Sunbelt, Southeastern Conference and Southern Conference as well. We have two players from the same team on a very competitive team. That is very impressive.”

Also earning recognition from the A-Sun was Belmont's Kayla Albritton, who received honorable mention as an outside hitter. Albritton, a First Team All-Atlantic Sun member, ranked second in the league in both service aces (48) and kills (411).
