Rachel Templin and Femi Alabi were named to the Wofford Invitational All-Tournament
Team after leading the Camels to a 2-1 mark. The Camels play their first home
match since August 29 and just second of the year Tuesday night against Charleston
Southern. Freshman Ashley Weers is ranked 15th in the nation averaging 0.75
service aces per game.
Last week, Gardner-Webb won both of its matches, running its winning streak
to three. The Bulldogs have won five of their last six matches on the year.
Against Wofford, three Bulldogs reached double digits in kills while four recorded
double figures in digs. Melissa Gibson and Bethany Martin each tallied a team-best
15 kills while Ashley Pridgeon chipped in 12. Katie Matykowski had a match-high
23 digs. Regina Feagin posted a match-high 48 assists. Against Presbyterian,
Pridgeon and Martin had 15 and 10 kills, respectively, to lead the way. Feagin
dished out a match-high 41 assists while accounting for six service aces. Matykowski
and Feagin reached double digits in digs.
KSU fell to 1-11 on the season as the Owls dropped all three matches at the
Western Carolina Catamount Classic over the weekend. Freshman Jenny Black was
named to the All-Tournament team after recording 24 kills and 15 digs. 17 of
her 24 kills came in the Owls' 4-game loss to the host Catamounts. KSU travels
to Samford on Tuesday night and then has 10 days off before opening conference
play at Campbell on September 29.
Outside hitter Jessica Turner was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Holiday
Inn Buena Park Fullerton Classic at Cal State-Fullerton. She had 24 kills and
27 digs in eight games over three matches against Cal State-Fullerton, San Diego
State and the University of Pennsylvania. Libero Ann Mullins twice posted 17
digs in the tournament against Cal State Fullerton and Penn. She missed reaching
double figures against San Diego State with nine. The Lady Bisons have not played
a home game this season. Their first will be Sept. 26 against Austin Peay.
Senior libero Liz Kane recorded her 1,500th career dig against Indiana on Saturday.
Her new total is 1550 total and she is 90 digs away from holding the record
at Mercer, which is now held by Katie Plummer (2001-2004) with 1640. Senior
middle blocker Kellie Violette registered her career-high in kills with 20 against
Chattanooga. The Bears went 1-3 for the week, defeating Georgia Southern on
Tuesday, and falling to SMU, Indiana, and Chattanooga at the IU Credit Union
Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Stetson suffered three losses in the Georgia Tech Regency Suites Tournament.
The Hatters fell to USF, Sam Houston State and Georgia Tech. Stetson plays again
Tuesday, September 19 at Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach.
