With three spots already occupied in the tournament, Gardner-Webb and Jacksonville
will face off Saturday for the right to each earn a place. GWU (11-15, 3-3 A-Sun)
averages 13.63 kills per game while JU (11-11, 3-2 A-Sun) leads the league in
blocks with 2.76 per game. With a Mercer loss, there is a possibility that both
teams could clinch.
THREE CLINCHERS ETSU, Belmont and Lipscomb each clinched a berth to the 2006 A-Sun Volleyball
Tournament over the wwekend. The Lady Bucs and Bruins, who were undefeated prior
to this weekend, faced off, with ETSU taking victory despite a two-game deficit.
ETSU also defeated Lipscomb to remain undefeated.
VOLLEY BUCS' RECORD SETTING WEEKEND
ETSU set multiple records over the weekend, first reaching a school record 11
straight victories. As a team, the Lady Bucs tallied 84 digs -- an A-Sun record
for digs in a three-game match. Junior libero Kaena Apana (Waiane, Hawaii) was
named player of the week after amassing a league best 31 digs in a three-game
match against Lipscomb. She collected 60 digs in eight games.
KANE MOVES TO TOP Mercer libero Liz Kane became the A-Sun all-time career leader in digs with
1,722 after picking up 57 in matches against Georgia State, UNF and Jacksonville.
She has logged 20-plus digs in eight matches this season.
