The Gardner-Webb volleyball team won its only match of the week, a 3-1 decision
over UNC Asheville. After dropping the first game 30-25, GWU came back to post
30-26, 30-28, 30-25 wins to finish the match. Freshman Regina Feagin dished
out 64 assists while Ashley Pridgeon accounted for a four-game record 29 kills.
Pridgeon also notched 10 digs. GWU hosts North Carolina A&T Monday night before
preparing for its first-ever conference tournament.
Mercer played just one match this week, ending its regular season with a win
at Savannah State (3-0). Julie Darty led the Bears with a 12-kill, 13-assist
double-double and Kellie Violette and Jen Darty added 11 kills apiece. Libero
Liz Kane broke the school's single-season digs record, passing her old record
of 523 digs. Her season total is currently 533. Sisters Jen and Julie Darty
rank first and second, respectively, in the Mercer record books for single-season
block assists. Jen has accumulated 90 block assists and Julie has 89. Mercer
takes on Lipscomb in the first-round of the Atlantic Sun Championships. The
Bears fell to the Lady Bisons, 3-1, in their first conference match of the season.
