NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Lipscomb's Lindsey Rutherford powered the Lady Bisons past
No. 6 Mercer, 3-0 (30-26, 30-23, 30-21), to advance to semifinals of the 2006
Atlantic Sun Tournament at Curb Event Center Friday afternoon.
The third-seeded Lady Bisons picked up the most wins in program history behind
Rutherford's match-high 18 kills. The first team All-Atlantic Sun pick set an
individual championship record, hitting .654 in the match, breaking the record
set by Emily Watts in 2002.
Mercer struggled to get going throughout the match, hitting .155 and only tallied
33 kills and 45 digs. Julie Darty and Karen Dorris led the way for the Bears
with eight kills each.
Lipscomb's Alex Scruggs tallied 14 kills, two digs, and Cara Wilber had the
only double-double of the match, with 11 kills, 12 digs. Libero Ann Mullins
picked up 24 digs.
Lipscomb will face Belmont at 7:00 pm in its tournament version of the Battle
of the Boulevard. The match can be seen live via the Atlantic
