Macon, Ga. – Jacksonville's Eva Stoilova (Sofia, Bulgaria/International Business),
helped cap off a great week for the Dolphins leading her team to a pair of victories.
She was named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week today by the conference office.
The junior outside hitter tallied 34 kills and 45 digs in victories over conference
foes Belmont and Lipscomb. In the Dolphins' 3-1 win over the Bruins, Stoilova
put down 15 kills and recorded 22 digs in match where only seven JU players
participated due to injuries. Against Lipscomb, Stoilova smahed 19 kills and
picked up 23 digs, handing the Bisons a 3-1 loss.
After a slow 1-9 start, Jacksonville climbed back to .500 with a 13-13 overall
record and finished with an 8-1 conference mark to clinch the No. 2 seed in the upcoming
A-Sun Tournament. As the defending champions, the Dolphins will be making their
seventh tournament appearance.
The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Player of the Week every Monday during
the 2005 volleyball campaign.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb,
Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
Other Top Performers
Sara Jacobson, BEL (Sr. - MH - Glen Ellyn, Ill. - Accounting) hit
.362 for the week while recording 11 or more kills in each of the Bruins' three
matches.
Jennifer Sartor, ETSU (Jr. - MB - Toronto, ONT - Exercise
Science) -- Collected 39 kills and 44 digs this week, averaging 3.00 k/gm and
3.38 d/gm. She tallied double-digit kills in every match this week - had a 15-kill,
19-dig performance against UNCA.
Kelly Paiva, FAU (Sr. - OH - Minas Gerais, Brazil - Criminal Justice)
-- Paiva posted two double-doubles on the week as FAU defeated ETSU and Florida
International. Paiva recorded 44 kills and 24 digs for the week.
Emily Kohler, UNF (Jr. - OH - Tallahassee, Fla. - Health Science)-- Kohler posted 22 kills and 10 digs in a 2-0 week for UNF. The Ospreys
knocked off Belmont and Lipscomb to finish third in the conference.
Jackie Viren, MER (Sr. - OH - Prior Lake, Minn. - Engineering) -- Viren
helped Mercer end its season on a six-game winning streak, securing a third consecutive
bid to the A-Sun Tournament. Viren finished the week averaging 3.71 kills and
3.43 digs per game and hit .237.
