Jill Dunn - Jacksonville

(on leadership from three returners)

Half of our points came from our veterans. Their leadership has to be there. It is crucial. We are working on having them guide our freshman into the season.

(on the rivalry with UNF)

We are extremely excited about the rivalry. The whole city is talking about it right now. We are anxious. Not only will they be huge rivals for us, but also there are three new teams to prepare for. Right now, we are trying to build our program and win conference games. If that happens to be against North Florida, that is great.

Colby Tilley - Kennesaw State

(on the biggest challenge to moving to Division I)

We have to try to improve in every phase of the game. Our coaching, our players, our recruiting, everything will have to improve. We have had a good preseason recruiting. It's amazing that the move to D-I has opened doors to players we have not had a chance to recruit in the past.

(on KSU's style of play)

We like to run and we like to score points. Unfortunately, we have a leaky defense as well. The last few years we have ranked first or second in scoring. We like to press full court and put a lot of points on the board.

Frank Bennett - Lipscomb

(on topping the preseason polls)

It is an honor to be selected there. I was a little bit surprised. I think if you look at the polls, it is wide open. Five teams in each poll received votes for first place and Stetson and Florida Atlantic each actually got more first place votes than we did. Last year, we were ranked number one and I don't know if it was a jinx, but the season did not end like we wanted it to. It's honor that the coaches and media think that highly of us.

(on preseason injuries)

It is something you can't control. We have had a total of six surgeries since last season. We have one player out for the year and we'll find out about another today. The injuries have been a little bit of a damper, but I'm excited about the way our returners and newcomers have practiced despite the limited numbers.

Brenda Welch-Nichols - Mercer

(on newcomers)

We got some really good newcomers. With eight freshmen, every day is a new day with them. We have some very talented players coming in with some good height. We have a lot of kids that can contribute and we are excited about them.

(on style of play with this year's squad)

I hope scoring goes up. We have been building this program for four years. We finally have our kids in with our type of play. We have a nice facility and want a good team in there to show off. We are going to be more athletic and this team will get up and down the court. Anytime you have eight freshmen, it is hard to know what to expect.

Mary Tappmeyer - UNF

(on goals for the season)

You have to take it a game at a time since we don't know a lot about the opposition. We are in a new way of play with the Thursday-Saturday conference schedule. Last season, we had two days between games, and I am a "fix-it" type of coach. My philosophy is that if you take care of your own business you will be ok. Obviously if you can't qualify for the tournament, you want to win the regular season or spoil as many team's chances as you can.

(on new intra-city rivalry)

Anytime you have an opportunity to play a cross-town rival, it provides a great event for both campuses and the city. We have a good relationship with Coach Dunn and her staff. It is just two games in the big picture, but you always want those bragging rights.

Dee Romine - Stetson

(on Nefertiti Walker)

When Nefertiti walked on our campus three years ago, she brought a different attitude to our program. They helped with the competitive attitude that we needed. Nef can carry a team by herself, but hopefully she won't have to do that.

(on underclassman)

We are really excited about our point guard Sharnesha Smith. She is playing like a veteran right now. She is doing all the little things you don't expect a freshman to do at the point guard spot. She is getting our club organized and scoring it herself.
