KSU's Clarke Performance Earns Back-to-Back Player of the Week Award

Monday, December 12, 2005

Macon, Ga. -- For the second consecutive week, Kennesaw State's Shavonder Clarke (Euxema, Bahamas/Sport Management) was named A-Sun Player of the Week despite dropping a close game in non-conference play.

In the Lady Owls' lone game of the week, the senior forward left everything on the court in a 92-87 loss to Jacksonville State on Monday night. Clarke scored 31 points and 23 rebounds in the game. She had nine offensive boards and 14 defensive rebounds along with three assists and three steals, committing only one turnover in 33 minutes of work.

Her 23 rebounds are just five shy of making the NCAA all-time single-game list, and is considered tops in the nation on this season's single game list, along with Shameka Smith from Gardner-Webb.

Clarke currently leads the league in scoring (25.6 ppg), rebounds (12.0 rpg) and steals (3.8 spg). Because Kennesaw State is its reclassification status this season, the team's stats can not be ranked by the NCAA. However, if Clarke's numbers were ranked, she would be leading the nation in scoring, as well as be ranked among the top-10 in rebounding and the top-15 in steals.

The Lady Owls will begin a six-game road swing on Dec. 19 at Towson State.

The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Player of the Week every Monday during the 2005 women's basketball campaign.

The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
