Thursday, February 16, 2006

Macon, Ga. -- Wanda Watkins etched her name in the history books, winning her 400th game Thursday night. Campbell defeated Mercer 68-58 in the University Center claiming sole possession of fourth place in the Atlantic Sun.

Marlena Murphy led Campbell with 12 points and 11 rebounds recording her fourth double-double of the season and the second in as many games. Tomika Tomlinson scored 12 first half points, while Amber Graham and Lauren Arthur each chipped in 10 points. Arthur’s 10 points are a new career-high for the freshman from Alexandria, Va.

Campbell improves to 10-14 on the season and 9-7 in the Atlantic Sun. The loss was the first Atlantic Sun home defeat for the Bears who fall to 11-11 overall and 8-7 in conference play.

Sarah Russell was the only Mercer player in double figures with 13 points as the Bears struggled with their shooting on connecting on 31.4 percent from the floor. Campbell shot a season-high 56.3 percent.

Campbell can clinch its first trip to the Atlantic Sun Championships in three years with a victory over Stetson on Saturday in DeLand, Fla. The Lady Camels beat the Lady Hatters 68-50 in the first meeting back in December; it is the largest margin of victory for Campbell this season.
