Friday, October 27, 2006 Ten Days of A-Sun Basketball finishes its tour of the league at Stetson. This season the Hatters have a fresh look, bringing in three junior college transfers and three freshman, to add to the five returning players. Coming off a disappointing season with a 9-19 record, the Hatters hope these fresh faces will help to get them back in position to win the A-Sun tournament, as they did in 2004-05 when the advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. “With the new kids, we have the ability to put more shooters on the floor than last year,” said Head Coach Dee Romine.
“We have depth at the guard position that is as strong as I have seen it in my time here at Stetson, and hopefully the fans will see that. We have a couple of key positions that are going to be filled by some new players and that is going to be a challenge,” said Romine. “I feel good about our team going into the year with the returners that we have and the new players that have joined our program.” The Hatters welcome back five letterwinners, including two seniors. “Already, in these early stages of the season we like the team chemistry, its really solid, and everyone has a good work ethic,” said Romine. “We have some very pure shooters joining the team this year, “ said Romine. “As well as some very versatile players, who can play inside or outside.” Walker recorded 1,023 points during her two-year Hatter career. She also led the league in scoring (21.5), free throw percentage (.914), and three-pointers made (2.96) in 2005-06. Walker set the school record for single season points (581), scoring (21.5), field goals attempted (526), and three-point field goals made (80). In her senior season, she was named first-team all-conference player, and two-time conference Player of the Week. Senior Kim Manning will most likely have the responsibility of running the point position. “Manning is a two year starter, whom we anticipate being our starting point guard.” Stetson opens regular season play with five games on the road, with a pretty competitive non-conference schedule. The Hatters will face heavy opponents early in the season, with games on the road against University of South Florida November 21, Florida State on December 6 and Florida on December 18. 10 Days of A-Sun Basketball Schedule
