Belmont fell just short of picking up its second SEC win of the season on the road at Alabama on December 20th. The Bruins were edged by one point, 52-51, as time expired and a three-point shot by true freshman Shaunda Strayhorn popped out of the hoop. Sophomore Alysha Clark otched her seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. The Bruins will take a break for the holidays and will return to action on January 4th on the road at Kennesaw State. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. Marlena Murphy has taken over as the leader on the floor for the Lady Camels posting double-doubles in each of the last three games, including a career-high 23 points to go along with 13 rebounds against UNC Wilmington. Following the break, the Lady Camels visit former A-Sun member Florida Atlantic on December 29 in the opening round of the FAU New Years Classic in Boca Raton, Fla. Due to injuries, Mercer has used seven different lineups. The Bears have lost six players to a variety of injuries for a total of 34 games The Hatters two very tough games this week. On Monday Stetson faced the Florida Gators in Gainesville. Though they pulled to within three the Gators were able to pull ahead and steal the show with a win, 72-55. On Thursday night in DeLand, The Hatters took on the Lady Jaguars of South Alabama. Stetson had one of the best 20 minutes of play all season, taking a 26-15 advantage into halftime. |
