Monday, January 08, 2007 Macon, Ga. – Pulling off a season-high performance to give Belmont sole possession of first place in the league, Alysha Clark was named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week today by the conference office. Clark averaged a double-double of 23 points and 11.5 rebounds in conference action. The sophomore forward shot 79 percent from the field, 94 percent from the charity stripe and 50 percent from beyond the arc in games against Kennesaw State and ETSU. Against Kennesaw, Clark scored 14 points and pulled down nine boards in the 62-49 victory. In a battle of unbeatens, Belmont gained the advantage over ETSU, with Clark scoring a season-high 32 points and snatching down 14 rebounds as the Bruins took the 78-69 win. She was 10-of-13 from the floor and 15-of-16 from the line. The 10-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., includes Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson, with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate to compete in 2007. Siarre Evans, ETSU (Fr. - G - Griffin, Ga. - Sports Management) --Evans finished the week 9-of-25 from the field and finished with a total of 30 points and 20 rebounds in the two conference games. Virginia Gregoire, JU (So. - G - Fort Lauderdale, Fla. - Marketing) -- For the week, Gregoire averaged 15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 2.0 steals and only 1.5 turnovers. Stephanie Scearce, KSU (So. - C - Blue Ridge, Ga. - Communications) -- Scearce averaged 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game versus Belmont and Lipscomb. Catie Woods, LIP (Jr. - G - Lawrenceburg, Tenn. - Exercise Science) -- Woods shot a career high 21 points in 82-71 loss at Kennesaw State. TaShera Lewis, MER (So. - F - Eastman, Ga. - Biology) -- Lewis averaged 15.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 3 steals for the week. Tamara Hubbard, UNF (Sr. - G - Jacksonville, Fla. - Psychology) -- Hubbard set a season high with 16 points against Campbell in an A-Sun win last week, then matched that against Gardner-Webb in the team's next outing. Janene Maclin, STET (Sr. - F - Chicago, Ill. - Business Management) -- Maclin led the Hatters to a 57-50 victory over Mercer and scored 15 points against Navy. |
