Tuesday, January 16, 2007 Macon, Ga. – Helping Belmont remain undefeated in conference action, Alysha Clark was named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week for the second consecutive week by the league office on Monday. Clark managed to average 20 points and 9.5 rebounds against two teams in only 31 minutes of play. The sophomore forward was red-hot, shooting 81 percent from the floor (17-of-21) and amassing 19 rebounds against both Stetson and Mercer. She scored her ninth double-double of the season against the Hatters with a 27-point, 11-rebound performance. She shot 12-of-14 from the field in only 17 minutes of work. Against Mercer, Clark played 14 minutes and scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. She was also 5-of-7 from the charity stripe in both games. Clark, a native of Mt. Juliet, Tenn. has earned A-Sun Player of the Week for the ninth time in her career. The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., includes Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson, with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate to compete in 2007. Siarre Evans, ETSU (Fr. - G - Griffin, Ga. - Sports Management) -- Evans was one of five ETSU players to score double digits as she finished with a game-high 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the 87-66 win at Campbell. On Saturday, Evans posted her fourth career double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) in the 81-68 victory at Gardner-Webb. Ashley Williams, JU (Jr. - F - Jacksonville, Fla. - Business) -- For the week, Williams averaged 20 points, 8.5 rebounds, three assists, 1.5 blocks and one steal per contest. She also shot 57.1 percent from the floor (16-28) and 80 percent from the free-throw line (8-10). |
