Virginia Gregoire topped 20 points twice for the week. Tuesday, November 20, 2007 MACON, Ga. – With Atlantic Sun Conference basketball off to an historic start on the men’s side, Virginia Gregoire and the Jacksonville Dolphins served notice that the women are going to be players as well in the 2007-08 season upsetting ACC foe Miami 72-64 last week. Gregoire’s 26 points powered the Dolphins to the road upset, and earned her Player of the Week honors the conference office announced Tuesday. Gregoire was a catalyst for the biggest win in program history, at the BankUnited Center on Nov. 13. Against Miami, The junior was a thorn in the Hurricanes side as she torched them in every aspect of the game en route to a career-high 26 points. She shot 7-of-17 from the field, tied a career-high by shooting 4-of-9 from beyond the arc and connected on 8-of-11 free throws. She also tied the team high with three steals and added four assists to lead JU to its first win over an ACC school in four attempts. In a 76-45 win over Bethune-Cookman, Gregoire tallied 13 points, six assists, three steal s and three rebounds while shooting 5-of-12 from the floor. The marketing major finished the week with another stellar performance, leading the Dolphins with 22 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals in a Monday loss to UCF. Other Top Performers: Siarre Evans, ETSU (So. – G- Griffin, Ga. – Sport Management) – Recorded her third consecutive double-double to open the season, led ETSU with 17 points and 16 rebounds against Delaware State. Gia Lockett, Kennesaw State (So. – G – Snellville, Ga. – Exercise and Health Science) – Scored a career-high 22 points in the Owls victory over Presbyterian. Courtney Hawkins, USC Upstate (So. – G – Greer, S.C. – Business Administration) – Scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Spartans first D-I win against Charleston Southern. |
