Monday, December 15, 2008 MACON, Ga. - Kennesaw State guard Greteya Kelley helped the Lady Owls to their first conference victory of the season with a 21-point, 10-rebound effort against USC Upstate Saturday night. Her double-double earned the reigning A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year her first career Player of the Week honor the conference office announced Monday. The Lawrenceville, Ga. native led all scorers with 21 points in KSU's victory against USC Upstate in the Atlantic Sun Conference opener for the Lady Owls. Kelley scored 13 in the first half and finished the contest tying for game-high honors with teammate Britteny Henderson with 10 rebounds. The sports management major also added five assists and three steals in 34 minutes of action. The Atlantic Sun Conference is an 11-member league committed to Building Winners for Life. The A-Sun stands for achievement with integrity in both the academic and athletic arenas, with a focus on the balance between the two for our student-athletes. Other Top Performers: Jessica Bobbitt, Belmont (P – Trenton, Tenn. – Sr. – Nursing) – Bobbitt notched her third consecutive double-double and fifth of the season against crosstown rival Tennessee State in Belmont's lone game last week. The Trenton, Tenn., native dropped in 16 points, hitting 50 percent of her shots from the floor, and pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds, Ashley Williamson (C – Colonial Heights, Va. – Jr. – Biology) – Williamson opened the week with her second double-double of the year, helping the Lady Camels down High Point, 67-56 inside the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center. Gwen Washington, ETSU (F – Manassas, Va. – Fr. – Business) – The Manassas, Va. native hit four of her six shot attempts and finished with 10 points and a career-tying eight rebounds in the 59-50 shocker against SEC foe Kentucky. |
